Monster Mandarin was founded on the principle that there must be something better out there when it comes to Mandarin Chinese schools. In 2018 there were lots of Chinese schools at the time, and there continue to be new Chinese schools being started each new year that comes.
However, one thing remains true. If you continue to do things the same way without improving, something bettter will come along. Traditional teaching and learning models served their purpose when we were growing up, but we believe we can do better.
Learning can be fun.
Learning can be fun. Learning should be fun. So let's do it. Let's create a Mandarin program that is actually enjoyable for kids. We can figure out the rest later. And that's how Monster Mandarin was born.
Making learning fun will always be our
North Star (Wikipedia). This means that no matter what new programs we create or what activities we consider introducing into the curriculum, we will always focus on making things fun for our students.
But why?
Do you enjoy waking up for swim practice? What about going to Disneyland? Whether it's swim practice or Disneyland, we all have things that we enjoy doing and things that we don't. But one thing is for sure -- if we enjoy something, we're more like to want to do it.
If we want to do something, we're much more mentally open. Open has several meanings in this case: open to learning, open to listening, and open to challenge. A student who is open has the ability to learn with ease, and that is the exact environment we are trying to foster at Monster Mandarin.
Life is filled with lots of things we find unpleasant; Mandarin shouldn't be one of those things.
